Reserves 4 Boston Town Reserves 1

Boston Town arrived at Ashby Avenue following their nine goal victory in midweek to find United’s youngsters in resolute form. United made three changes with Damien Pridham returning from injury, while trialist Josh Rattanong and ex-Imps trainee Nigel Wallace both made their debuts in midfield.

The Whites could have been two up in the opening minutes when Scott Lowman found himself clear, but it was Alex Knibbs who once again opened the scoring with a fine strike after good work by Rattanong. United continued to press with both Dave Coyde and particularly Wallace in excellent form. Wallace found Knibbs in the box but his effort was blocked on the line, then on the half hour mark Lowman latched onto a perfect through ball from Myatt and slotted home United’s second. Then five minutes before the break, Rattanong stole the ball on the edge of Town’s box and instantly struck a perfect low drive from 20 yards which found the bottom corner.

Town came out fighting after the break but rarely troubled McGann, although United struggled to find the tempo of the first period. Skipper Ryan Creane was once again outstanding at the heart of a solid back four. After a scrappy exchange, Town pulled a goal back on 70 minutes, but this only served to fire United back into action. Rattanong again found Lowman and as Town’s keeper advanced Lowman unleashed a superb volley which dipped into the top corner. United once again found their rhythm and finished the game strongly, substitute Kallum Smith almost scored from close range and Lowman rattled a post which denied him his second hat trick in two games.
